We arrive in Bhutan, the Land of the Thunder Dragon, and are greeted at Paro International Airport by our guides, who will accompany us throughout this journey. We shall embark on a leisurely drive to Thimphu, winding through scenic landscapes that will take your breath away. Along the way, enjoy stunning views of towering mountains, lush forests, and colorful prayer flags.
Once in Thimphu, we shall visit Kuenselphodrang, or Buddha Point, to see the magnificent 54-meter-tall Buddha and soak in panoramic city views. It’s a peaceful spot to pause, reflect, and offer prayers and butter lamps, connecting with the serene energy of this sacred place while soaking in the breathtaking surroundings.
Finally, we shall settle into our serene property, a perfect retreat surrounded by nature, where you can relax and unwind before tomorrow’s adventures.
This morning, we shall visit Pangri Zampa Monastery, where locals come each year for predictions about their luck, health, career, and more. It’s a must-visit for those curious about their future. You’ll also have the chance to consult a Dungtsho, a Buddhist doctor, who will assess your life energy through pulse reading and offer health advice based on the Buddhist principles of Vata, Pitta, and Kapha.
Just a 5-minute drive brings us to Kingdom Camp, where our host Kelly will greet us with fresh ingredients to prepare Kewa Datshi, a beloved Bhutanese dish, cooked on a traditional mud stove. You’ll have the chance to join in the cooking process and interact with the chef. Once ready, enjoy the delicious dish for lunch.
In the afternoon, we visit Kelzang Textiles, where we learn about traditional dyeing techniques using natural ingredients. We create our own colorful souvenirs, connecting with the artistry and craftsmanship of Bhutanese textiles.
After dinner, those still up for more fun can head to The Grey Area for live music and drinks!
Today we drive to the stunning Phobjikha Valley, home to the endangered black-necked cranes that migrate here during winter.
On the way, we pass through Dochula Pass, a breathtaking viewpoint adorned with 108 chortens (stupas). On clear days, the pass offers panoramic views of the snow-capped Himalayas. If time permits, we can visit Druk Wangyal Lhakhang, a temple that combines ancient traditions with modern elements, built in honor of Bhutan’s fourth king.
Upon arrival enjoy lunch at the property, following a gentle hike through the valley’s nature trail, a journey that takes us through pristine landscapes filled with fresh mountain air and the sounds of nature. The trail ends at the Center for Cranes, where we learn about Bhutan’s conservation efforts for these graceful birds.
We’ll begin our drive to Punakha, stopping at the peaceful Gangtey Goenpa monastery, perched on a ridge with stunning valley views. It’s a serene retreat for young monks focused on study and prayer.
Once in Punakha, we shall visit the iconic Punakha Dzong, a magnificent fortress nestled between the Male and Female rivers. This historic site houses the embalmed remains of Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal, Bhutan’s unifier, and is the sacred place where every Bhutanese monarch receives blessings before ascending the throne. Towards the evening relax in the property.
We shall enjoy an easy hike to Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten, a unique monastery built by the Third Queen Mother, taking about an hour to reach. The Chorten’s Bhutanese architecture is truly special and unique.
Afterward, we shall depart for Paro, making a lunch stop at the Secret Garden in Thimphu—a charming property with riverside views, privacy, and a cozy bonfire setup. Finally, we shall continue our journey to Paro, a valley rich in ancient monasteries and temples, and home to the majestic Mount Chomolhari.
Today, we will take on an unforgettable hike to the iconic Taktsang Monastery (Tiger’s Nest), perched dramatically on a cliff at 10,000 feet. This sacred site, tied to the legend of Guru Padmasambhava arriving on a tigress, offers breathtaking views and an atmosphere of deep spirituality. The moderate trail takes us through lush pine forests adorned with fluttering prayer flags, with a midpoint stop for refreshments and stunning views of the valley.
Inside the monastery, sacred shrines and intricate murals tell stories of faith and devotion, making this a truly moving experience.
For those opting for a creative alternative, the Mandala Art Center provides a serene space to explore the meditative art of mandala-making, rooted in Buddhist philosophy.
In the evening, we gather for a farewell dinner, sharing laughter, live music, and reflections on the journey. This final celebration is a fitting end to our time in Bhutan, leaving us with cherished memories and lasting connections.
